Alison gained her PhD ‘Visual Arts as a Basis for Experimental Poetry’, in 2018 from Royal Holloway, University of London. Her focus was to establish the shared conceptual & experimental practices & theories of Marcel Duchamp & Gertrude Stein to situate a postmodern, contemporary poetic practice. 

Alison has published widely in poetry magazine & anthologies including Long Poem, Poetry Wales & the Other Room.  Her poetry books, a. Vase, Silent Diagrams and Parallel to Red in Chorus are published by the Knives, Forks & Spoons Press. She has performed & presented her work at conferences, reading & galleries. 

Alison was resident at In(ter)ventions; Literary Practice at the Edge, Banff Arts Centre, Canada, 2012, Emerging Writer-In-Residence, Kingston University 2012, & self-directed artist at Bothy Project, Scotland, 2022.

Alison has an ongoing research practice choreographer & movement director, Elaine Thomas of Poetic, producing drawings, choreography, dialogues, sound-scores, texts, multi-media installations & performances.

Poetry Tutor, Athens Summer School, Greece on behalf of Kingston Writing School & The British Council. I designed and taught a one- week intensive English language poetry course for adult learners.

2012–2013Emerging Writer in Residence, Kingston University. I developed and taught a series of creative writing masterclasses, seminars, workshops and lectures aimed at undergraduate and postgraduate students. I also co-taught on the BA CW, Innovations and Experiments in Contemporary Poetry, and the Introduction to Poetry modules.

Technē Congress, 10 & 11 Jan 2019, Royal Holloway, University of London. I presented, ‘Publishing Practice Based Research: Dance & Poetics’ & took part in panel discussion with other creative practioners.

The Vital Signs Festival 28-30 September 2018. In collaboration with choreographer Elaine Thomas, I was commissioned to give a performance and to deliver a workshop as part of the festival programme.

The Cambridge Xu Zhimo Poetry & Art Festival 2018, Kings College, Cambridge. I was a panellist on the ‘artists & poets exchange panel, as part of the festival programme.

Dance Fields Roehampton 20-24th April, 2017. In collaboration with Elaine Thomas, I presented performative lecture, texture. aesthetic. production.

How to do things with...The second annual Practice Research symposium, University of Surrey, July 2016. I presented, What Duchamp Said, Even. . . Annotations as Instructions for a. Performance Lecture, as part of How to do things with...Vigour panel.

Motif: 2014, RHUL Practice-based conference. I was the director of the 2014 RHUL practice-based conference, held at C4CC, Kings Cross, London.

E:Poetry 2013, University at Buffalo, held in London. I performed collaborative work, Thus in the crossing with choreographer and dancer Elaine Thomas.

Practice, Process & Paradox, University of Roehampton 2013 – I presented work in progress Thus in the crossing with choreographer Elaine Thomas & gave a performative paper on collaborative methods towards a shared poetics of making, entitled, Thus: a performative collaboration.

Beyond Calypso, University of Warwick, 2011- I was invited to write an introduction on Sam Selvon, The writer and the man, as the opening speech for the conference.

Beyond Text: Making and Unmaking Text, 2011- I presented a paper and a workshop on experimental practice.
